On this day we have the honour of receiving Tawana Kariri-Xoco from the Fulkaxo people of Sergipe, Brazil, defender of the Atlantic Forest. Tawana will share stories of the jurema and other sacred trees, he will share song, dance and he will also lead a body painting workshop in which he will explain relations between his body paint designs and the spirituality of the forest.

This event is part of a series of events celebrating the culture of the Great North Wood in SE London.

This ticket includes a booking for the second event of the festival to be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

This events is for all ages, and accessible to all. Rehreshments are available at the festival camp, and there are access-free toilets also available.


About Tawana Kariri Xoco

Tawana is the spiritual and cultural leader of the Kariri-Xoco Fulkaxo people of the Opara River in Northeastern Brazil. He is also one of the community leaders of Reserva Ecologica Fulkaxo, an indigenous ecological reserve aimed at preserving the Atlantic Forest of Brazil.


Tawana Kariri Xoco is the spiritual leader of the Fulkaxo people, a branch of the Kariri-Xoco people of the catinga and atlantic forests in Northeastern Brazil. He will be visiting London as part of Guardians Worldwide's Treemoot International Storytelling Festival. We propose a conversation between him and GWW Director Nicolas Salazar Sutil about the forest symbolism of his crafts, and for him to sell some of the crafts to attendants of the Urban Tree Festival.
