Event Information

Black Girls Hike and Epping Forest Heritage Trust have come together to stage another fantastic walk as part of the Urban Tree Festival for black women and their families.

Part of the 2023 Urban Tree Festival, this event is in partnership with the Epping Forest Heritage Trust and the The Hive Centre based in Epping Forest, formerly known as Suntrap.

This walk will start at Chingford Station with a leisurely stroll through the forest to the Hive, learning about its history and ecology on the way. Once at the Hive, we'll have lunch and then get crafting. Tea and coffee will be provided but bring a packed lunch.

What to bring:

• Hiking boots or sturdy trainers

• Socks to prevent blisters

• Comfortable and loose clothing

• A hat and sunglasses

• Suncream

Founded in 2019, Black Girls Hike provides a safe space for Black women to explore the outdoors. Challenging the status quo, and encouraging Black women to reconnect with nature, we host nationwide group hikes, outdoor activity days, and training events.

Epping Forest Heritage Trust

A charity and a membership organisation with a big mission to inspire people about Epping Forest, and to conserve and protect its irreplaceable biodiversity, culture, and heritage now and for generations to come. We operate across the whole of Epping Forest, covering 6,000 acres stretching from Manor Park in East London to Epping in Essex.

The Hive (formerly Suntrap)

Nestled deep in Epping Forest, the Hive offers outdoor educational activities for schools, families, adults, and community groups. With a legacy of over fifty years, proud holders of the Department for Education approved national Council for Learning Outside the Classroom award many of our users return again and again. Come to The Hive and learn about our natural environment first hand finding out about positive actions that tackle climate and ecological emergencies.
