Event Information

This Unique InspiralLondon walking exploration with JD Swann, passes the ancient trees of Epping Forest from Forest Gate to Hollow Ponds and on towards Leytonstone.

We join legendary orniphilosopher JD Swann and InspiralLondon's Charlie Fox to walk Segment 13 of the trail from Forest Gate to Hollow Ponds and on towards Wood Street. Starting promptly at 2pm from Forest Gate Station.

Experience both the sights and sounds of avian East London and its forest canopy. Binoculars and bird knowledge optional. JD Swann will guide you towards Leyton Flats, pass Hollow Ponds to Lea Bridge Road, to end either on the Lea Bridge Road (buses) or to walk onwards to Wood Green Station.

You can join a short part of this Epic Epping Forest Walk at The Green Man Interchange (near Leytonstone Station) – to then walk on towards Wood Street.

For this shorter walk – join us at 3.45pm – at the centre of the Green Man Interchange where we will be taking forest refreshments in the centre of the extraordinary oasis hidden  at the centre of the busy A12 interchange. Then wander again together across Leyton Flats, pass Hollow Ponds to Lea Bridge Road observing and listening to the street trees and urban forest scape; to keep walking to the Lea Bridge Road (buses) or to continue onto Wood Green Overground.

Part of InspiralLondon ReWalk, ReMap, ReTell 2024-2025

From Spring 2024 to 2025 InspiralLondon sets out to rewalk, remap and retell the 300 mile spiral trail, first walked in 2015. We invite all kinds of walkers, urban explorers and the curious to experience the magic of this unique urban pathway.

Walk on edge of Epping Forest from Forest Gate to Hollow Ponds and on towards Leytonstone.

InspiralLondon CIC

InspiralLondon CIC is a non-profit project - a collective of walking artists, project associates (urban planning, geography, ecology, architecture) and urban explorers - working together to create then nourish a 300 mile spiralling walking trail through the whole of London. Conceived as an artist-led walking project to create an urban/semi-urban walking trail through Metropole of London, under the umbrella of MT (Metropolitan Trails 2013).

The route follows both existing footpaths and passageways, while creating new ways in which to explore and find a way through the city. The trail is an invitation for all to explore, rediscover and reconnect with their city; to begin to rethink the urban, the metropolitan and its relation to other and to inhabiting place.
