Event Information
Existence as Resistance we will be venturing to Barnwood N2 in Finchley, an edible, forageable forest garden and hidden gem on the edges of the North Circular!
We'll be joined by Founder Leo Smith and spend the afternoon exploring how such pocket-sized spaces embody joyful resistance, resilience and repair amidst multiple ecological crises of pollution, biodiversity, food scarcity and access to green space.
We'll use our full senses to explore the healing herbs in the forest garden; make our own repairing balms from plants foraged in the garden; and start seeding our own edible forests!
Contributors
Becky Lyon
Becky Lyon is an English-Jamaican artist working at the intersection of art, ecology and community. She’s interested in how art practice can help us re-body back into the animate, vibrant, tangly messwork of our ecology and is interested in ecology as a sourcebook for co-flourishing in times of ruin. Her work manifests in multiple forms from tactile installations to rituals, sensory artefacts and word-foolery. She is Founder Grounder of Ground Provisions - an artist-led, schooled-by-the-forest for grown ups hosting participatory gatherings, walks, sensory seminars and reading groups for a range of audiences. She has an MA Art & Science from Central Saint Martins and an MA Art & Ecology from Goldsmiths University and is a volunteer London National Park City Ranger.
Location of event
Barnwood N2 (via Finchley Central Station!) Station Road London N3 2RY
Rather than meeting us directly at Barnwood N2 we will meet at Finchley Central station walking first through the concrete urban sprawl of Finchley to reach our destination and share the experience of arriving at the edge
