Event Information
Managed by the City of London Corporation, Hampstead Heath hosts a large population of over 400 veteran trees just north of central London.
The guided walk will be led by Tree Management Officer David Humphries and will cover topics such as veteran tree management in high use areas, issues from compaction and construction, the impact of invasive pests & diseases, historic landscape pressures, the wider fungal and saproxylic ecology on the Heath and succession & veterans for the future.

David Humphries
David Humphries is Tree Management Officer at Hampstead Heath having worked there for 35 years, starting as an apprentice. David specialised in the management of urban and ancient trees as well as being recognised as an expert in the interactions between trees and fungi. In 2021 David co-authored the book ‘Fungi on Trees: A Photographic Reference’
Organisation
The City of London Corporation manages Hampstead Heath as well as other green spaces across London such as Epping Forest, West Ham Park and Burnham Beeches.
