Event Information

The London Borough of Hounslow was voted Council of the year for 2021, and the council’s environmental management and its multifaceted response to the climate emergency helped deliver this success.

Hounslow has developed several tree-related initiatives over the past two years that have delivered increased tree canopy cover while also enabling residents and businesses to become more involved with their local environment.

Officers from the council will be joined by representatives of Greentalk, a company who have been working with them to deliver Hounslow Greentalk, a powerful digital platform that enables people to find out about trees and to help care for them.

The presentation will showcase several of Hounslow’s tree initiatives including how the Council plants a tree for every child born which last year saw 4,500 new trees being planted.

In the 2021/22 planting season a hugely popular tree giveaway scheme saw hundreds of trees planted by residents, and at Christmas, conifers were planted in every ward with residents and schools encouraged to decorate them.

The borough has more than 350 tree species and over 120,000 trees that are owned and managed by the Council – and that number is always growing.

Greentalk will provide a demonstration of their platform showing how people can find out about Hounslow’s trees, create active travel routes around streets and parks in the borough using trees as waypoints and report issues with public trees.

Greentalk’s most powerful new features, tree adoption and watering notifications will also be demonstrated. This enables residents to have a direct and positive impact on their environment which it is hoped will lead to more newly planted trees surviving their first critical years in often challenging urban environments.
