Event Information
Join Tom Reidman, Tree Officer Leeds, for this workshop discussing legal protection of trees, specifically under the Town and Country Planning Act.
The workshop/presentation will introduce and discuss legal protection of trees, specifically under the Town and Country Planning Act that allows local authorities to protect valuable trees.
This will include an overview of the legislation (including challenges/limitations of the legislation), how to check for existing protection, how to request new/updated protection, how the Council will process and assess these requests, and enforcement of legal protection.
We will cover how Leeds specifically is developing in this regard, the challenges identified by the incoming/updated Tree Officers, and how we intend to move this forward, including further updating processes/training but also through improved community engagement.
Contributors
Tom Reidman
I have been in the industry for ~12 years, starting as a climbing arborist before progressing through to surveying and briefly working as technician/consultant. I am now set up in the public sector for Leeds City Council planning department, which will be my role/project for the foreseeable future.
My role primarily involves assessing notices/applications for tree works and modernising our approach to these, while also working across departments/sections to improve our approach to assessing applications, serving TPOs, and enforcing against unauthorised works.
