Forest Talk Radio - Let the Trees Speak for Themselves

Forest Talk Radio is a ‘GPS-triggered audio experience that brings you into the world of trees’ produced by award-winning Canadian David Merleau.  I did not know about them before the festival, so when I found out they were one of the very well-known contributors, I had to find out what it was all about. I thought the idea was so original and entertaining, that I was overwhelmed by emotion. At first I was surprised, then I had a laugh, then I was listening to it so closely like a little kid who didn’t notice how the time went by.

I wanted to talk about it with somebody, so I asked my friends to listen to their Urban Tree Festival edition, and here’s what they said:

  • It was an unusual experience for me, however I really enjoyed the meditative feeling it gave me along with a feeling of connection with nature. Nevertheless, I think it can be improved by adding more ambient sounds and some quiet music.

  • I listened to the second podcast, in general the main feeling I’ve had while listening it is calm and peace, but it was also very extraordinary in its nature. The idea behind the podcast is beautiful and meaningful but for me it was also like a therapeutic tale that reminded me of the times of my childhood when the only thing I needed to forget about my worries was a good bedtime story.

  • I watched episode 1 and at first I found it quite bizarre. I didn’t understand what was going on, why was the man talking about losing his phone in the forest, and then describing how the roots penetrated it... However, after he explained everything I got the gist of it. I enjoyed the story and found it witty. I don’t think I have listened to podcasts similar to this one but it is a novel and interesting direction to be moving in!

As you can see from the responses, nobody has listened to anything like this, but everyone enjoyed it! I guess that explains pretty much all of it. There’s just something about the feeling of connection with your soul that makes you want to continue listening. So if you love original content and down to listen to stories from the trees first-hand, you can listen Forest Talk Radio Special Edition every day of the festival here: https://urbantreefestival.org/forest-talk-radio
