Tickets: Free, booking advised for workshops otherwise just turn up on the day! (Donations welcomed)

Celebrate urban trees with a free all-day programme including a diverse range of activities - indoors and outdoors - for all ages and cultures, including singing workshops for families and young children with Michelle Woolfenden, primary school teacher and leader of the Morris Folk Choir; Ian Solomon-Kawall, aka KMT, a Freedom Teacher Guide who uses art (hip-hop) for social cohesion and awareness; and a short film and workshop on ‘Tree Gratitude’ with Mama D of Community Centred Knowledge. Event supported by the Mayor of London.

Celebrate urban trees with a free all day programme including a diverse range of activities - indoors and outdoors - for all ages and cultures.

Join in the Urban Tree Festival at Camley Street hosted by the London Wildlife Trust. Come and celebrate urban trees with a diverse programme of free activities for all ages and cultures from 11am-5pm, followed by a ticketed performance of tree songs and readings by the Morris Folk Choir from 7.00pm

Schedule

10.00am - Doors open

From 11.00am - Drop-in activities throughout day:

  • Educational arts/craft activities with London Wildlife Trust and Urban Tree Festival team

  • Artwork Trail - across the site with images and poems from the UTF writing competition

  • Tree themed food and drink for sale at the café

11.30am-12.30pm - Family music workshop: singing workshop for families facilitated by Michelle Woolfenden, leader of Morris Folk Choir. A chance for families with children aged 0-99 to join in with some fun and folky songs in a relaxed music and movement session inspired by trees

11.00am - 1.00pm - Tree Tour: Euston to St Pancras, a walk with Paul Wood - Walk lead by Paul Wood, author of ‘London is a Forest’ and former LWT Trustee. Starting near Euston to arrive at Camley St. around 1.00pm for lunch (Book early to avoid disappointment - Paul’s walks sell out!)

12:30pm - 1.30pm - Creative workshop: make clay tile imprints with the London Wildlife Trust.

2.00pm - 3.00pm - Hip-hop workshop: Tree rapping session with Ian Solomon-Kawall (May Project Gardens.)

3.00pm -4.00pm - Music workshop: Singing workshop for all led by Michelle Woolfenden with members of Morris Folk Choir. Another relaxed session with songs and music inspired by trees.

4.00pm - 5.00pm - Tree Gratitude workshop: launch of ‘Tree Gratitude’ a short film about the hidden trees of the city by Mama D of Community Centred Knowledge followed by a hands on workshop session tasting, smelling and handling tree products.

Doors close to public at 5.00pm

Join us again from 7.00pm, when doors open for the ticketed Morris Folk Choir performance.

Contributors

Ian Solomon-Kawall

Is an artist, inspirational leader and consultant. His work ranges from running award-winning garden projects in South London, including May Project Gardens, to leading positive social change through his partnerships.

He has dyslexia and dyspraxia: “The main things [I find challenging] are memory, processing information and communication. With communication, I sometimes struggle expressing my ideas.

“I see and feel things before they happen and trying to communicate this to others can be difficult. I was diagnosed recently so not understanding why was a challenge for a while too.”

Michelle Woolfenden

Michelle is a musician, choir director and primary school music teacher. She has led Morris Folk Choir since its inception in 2008.

She also runs music and movement sessions for parents and children in Hackney and at festivals, including Folk by the Oak. She plays violin, recorder, guitar and recently started learning the piano accordion.

Mama D

Mama D leads Community Centred Knowledge, a small collective which engages with communities and groups to explore stories related to food and health through workshops and other activities with a focus on the experience, histories and aspirations of people of African and Caribbean heritage.

Most tickets for the Urban Tree Festival are free, but we ask attendees to please donate if they can.

We suggest a donation of £5 per event ticket and you can easily donate by clicking the donate button. Larger donations are always welcomed.
