Growth and decay in urban plants
Through a series of oil paintings, I depict indoor plants experiencing long-term water deprivation. Different parts of the same plant exist in uneven conditions: areas exposed to light continue to grow, while shaded sections gradually wither. This creates a subtle temporal delay, where vitality and deterioration coexist but are not synchronised.
The work reflects how urban environments selectively sustain life. While certain conditions support growth, others quietly contribute to decline, often going unnoticed. By focusing on small-scale plant life, the project reveals a broader ecological tension embedded within everyday spaces. The paintings aim to make visible these slow, fragmented processes, inviting viewers to reconsider how life is maintained, interrupted, or neglected in the urban environment.
