May Tree Festival - Remixed!
by Friends of Wandsworth Park
Join us for a traditional May Tree Festival … with a modern twist!
On May 14th 2022, to celebrate the start of Urban Tree Festival 2022, Friends of Wandsworth Park invite you to a funky, fun and FREE festival including:
Mindfulness in trees (book tickets)
Tree Dressing and Tree Wishes
Music and Maypole Dancing
The amazing group, Folk Dance Remixed, will lead the dancing, first round a tree (the origin of the maypole) and then perform their show ‘Step Hop House’ round a maypole. There will be opportunities to join in the maypole dancing and ‘Ceilidh Jam’ with them in their unique fusion of hip hop and street, traditional and contemporary styles.
The programme combines elements of traditional ‘Beltane’ pre-Christian tree worship and is in the form of a Ceremony - the Green Man’s marriage to the May Goddess.
The Crown on top the birch tree has this year been made by children from Brandlehow school
