Leeds Joins the Urban Tree Festival for the First Time in 2025
Leeds is proudly participating in the national Urban Tree Festival for the first time in 2025, offering a vibrant programme of events from 10th to 18th May. This milestone marks a significant step in celebrating and promoting urban forestry within the city.
Organised in partnership with Fruitworks, Hyde Park Source and Climate Action Leeds, the Leeds programme features a diverse range of activities, including community orchard workshops, green woodworking sessions, guided tree walks, and family-friendly events like the Orchard Fruit Day at Killingbeck Orchard. These events aim to engage residents in appreciating and understanding the vital role of trees in urban environments.

Highlights of the Leeds programme include:
Free Tree Distribution with Wakefield District: An online presentation on successful tree distribution initiatives
Community Orchard Workshop: Guidance on setting up and maintaining community orchards.
Leeds City Centre Trees Tour: A walking tour exploring significant trees in the city centre.
Introduction to Green Wood Work: Hands-on workshops teaching traditional woodworking techniques.
Orchard Fruit Day: A family-friendly event with activities like fruit tree planting and juicing.

The festival's theme, ‘Discovering Urban Trees’, encourages communities to explore and appreciate the trees that enhance urban life. With many events being low or no-cost, the festival is open to all.
