Event Information
A photographic exhibition associated with a two non-consecutive days mobile photography workshop and a participatory collage workshop.
The exhibition was just displayed a few weeks ago at Hornsey Library in Haringey.
After years spent recording local grassroots protests against the daily ecocides inflicted on our habitat - the 'forest city' of London - by developers, politicians and fake 'regeneration' projects, I bought a vintage digital camera and spent months layering pictures of buildings and plants in dreamlike depictions of my city as a forest.
To me, future cities must become what botanist Stefano Mancuso calls fitopolis, “places where the relationship between plants and animals reconnects to the harmonious correlation found in nature. There is nothing of greater importance for the future of humanity than this”.
The exhibition will be connected to a mobile photography workshop in nature, in which I will facilitate participants' immediate and accessible expression of their affection for nature's wise ancestors, the trees. Their pictures will end up on an Instagram account and a wall in the exhibition.
The collage workshop will be a memory journey through personal experiences. Many communities have lost trees that were part of their daily lives during the last few years. I will ask the participants to bring small memorabilia and pictures of those memories. After a short introduction and community exercises to interconnect, we will create a random collage of London's lost trees that will be exhibited and posted online.
