Chris Hawkins is the chair of the Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods. He compiled the online guide to the trees at Lesnes Abbey and has written guidebooks about the woods and abbey ruins.

The Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods was established in 2021. A voluntary group, funded by its membership, grants, donations, and fundraising activities.

Their aim is to help promote, protect, and preserve the historically and scientifically important woods and abbey ruins at Lesnes Abbey Woods. By keeping them well looked after, they want to ensure that they remain a relaxing, beautiful, and interesting place for people to enjoy and explore.

Location: Outside Chestnuts Coffee Kiosk, Lesnes Abbey Lodge, Abbey Wood, London, SE2 0AX

Find us: A walk – starting and finishing in the same place:

10-minute walk from Abbey Wood Station (National Rail and Elizabeth Line).

Turn right out of station, go down steps and then past the shops on Wilton Road, keeping left.

At the end, cross over a zebra crossing and go under a bridge.

Follow Abbey Road, keeping right, and turn right up New Road, keeping to the left.

At the entrance to Abbey Wood Park, follow the footpath to the Lodge.

Chestnuts is on the right-hand side.
