Event Information

Great Trees of Islington, a circular walk from Angel tube station.

Join Paul Wood, urban tree guide and author of Tree Hunting, on an exploration of Islington. No less than three out of the 1,000 trees featured in Paul's book can be seen in a relatively small area of this north London enclave.

Look out for Lenin's Maple, the Grimaldi Poplar and the Teaching Aid Fig. As well as these three particularly remarkable trees, there will be other interesting specimens to see along the way even though they didn't make the cut for Tree Hunting.

This gentle walking tour will last approximately 90 minutes.

Candidate trees

Paul says “We'll be looking for 'candidate trees' on these walks. That is, candidates for a notional second volume of Tree Hunting. These are remarkable trees that are worthy of greater recognition and of naming. I am sure there are trees we will see on this walk that are very big, old or beautiful, in other words, trees that have such character they are ones that many people will have noticed. I hope that together we can notice these trees and agree on suitable names for them. Get ready to come tree hunting!”
