This urban tree walk, part of the Urban Tree Festival in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, invites participants to explore and celebrate the trees of Exhibition Park. Focusing on the importance of trees in an increasingly nature-depleted world, the walk will cover tree identification, as well as their edible and medicinal uses, ecology, folklore, and social history. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the role trees play in the landscape while enjoying a cup of herbal tea made from the trees.

The Urban Tree Festival is coming to Newcastle-upon-Tyne! Join us for this urban tree walk celebrating the trees of Exhibition Park.
Trees are what make our landscapes. In our increasingly nature depleted world, it is more critical than ever that we honour and protect our trees.
In this walk we will be celebrating trees in their fullest sense. We will be looking at how to identify them correctly, exploring their edible and medicinal uses, learning about their ecology, their folklore and the complex social history that roots them in this land.
The walk will include a cup of herbal tea, from the trees.

The walk will be led by Than Gunabalasingham of Nourish the Wild CIC and Claire Turner of Ahimsa Apothecary Herbals. Than is a horticultural educator, with a background in food and environmental policy research. Claire is a medical herbalist with a background in community food growing. They are both fascinated by the stories of the plants we find around us, and how we can live more closely with trees in our daily lives.
